Michelle Scherer Selected to Lead Michigan Tech’s College of Engineering

Michigan Technological University has a new Dean of the College of Engineering. Michelle Scherer has been selected by the university to lead the College of Engineering. She will begin her role with the university on July 1st, after a months-long national search. Scherer was selected by a search committee made up of faculty from each department, undergraduate and graduate students, college staff, and university senate representatives.

Scherer travels to Houghton from the University of Iowa. There she leads the College of Engineering Hanson Center for Communication and works as a professor of civil and environmental engineering. She also held a former position as chair for the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Iowa. Scherer holds a Doctor of Philosophy in Environmental Science and Engineering from the Oregon Graduate Institute, a Master of Science in Civil And Environmental Engineering from the University of Connecticut, and a Bachelor of Science in Systems Engineering from the University of Virginia.

Provost and senior vice president of academic affairs Andrew Storer says that Scherer’s addition to the University College of Engineering’s history of leadership will help lead the university into the fourth industrial revolution with outstanding undergraduate and graduate education, continuing Michigan Tech’s prestige as a research institution.Learn more about Michelle Scherer here.
