Visit Keweenaw Hosts Destination Northern Ontario to Study the Copper Country’s Tourism Practices

Visit Keweenaw welcomes a Canadian destination marketing organization to the Copper Country to learn about the community’s tourism practices.

Visit Keweenaw will host Destination Northern Ontario today in Hancock as the group seeks to study how example communities have harnessed the tourism economy as a driver for economic growth. The trip is the second trip Destination Northern Ontario has made to study tourism practices in the United States. Last year the group focused on larger metropolitan areas in Green Bay and Chicago. This year the group intends to focus on the practices of smaller communities similar to many found in Northern Ontario. The visit from the organization underscores the importance the region’s visitor economy holds in communities.

The Keweenaw Peninsula is home to hundreds of miles of short and long hiking trails, an off-road interconnected motorized trail system leading to many sought-after destinations. There are opportunities to learn about rich local culture and history at festivals, museums, programs, and family-friendly guided tours. There are also active communities of dark sky and nature photographers, waterfall and rock hunters, and avid water sport enthusiasts who call their region home. Those interested in learning more about tourism and recreation opportunities coming up this spring and summer in the area can find more details here.
