The second individual accused of murder in Hancock Township has been deemed competent to stand trial. Jacob Kempainen 21 years old of Hartland, Wisconsin, accused of murdering his grandfather Alvin Kempainien in late 2023, was found competent to stand trial following a psychological evaluation. Kempainen is charged with homicide – open murder, and conspiracy to commit murder. He also faces an additional firearms charge. His mother, Margaret Kempainen, identified Jacob as the shooter in the incident during an interview with police. Margaret faces similar homicide and conspiracy charges. Both were arrested in Iowa following a multi-state search for the pair, on December 20th. A probable cause hearing for Jacob Kempainen has been set for April 22nd. A preliminary exam has also been scheduled for Margerat on the same day.
