Michigan Tech Theater Brings Purple Hearts to the McArdle Theater

When visiting theater professor Nich Radcliffe arrived in the Keweenaw peninsula this summer he noticed many of the veteran’s memorials, and honor banners around the region. With the community’s connection to veterans of the war in mind, he immediately decided he wanted to bring a special show to the area. Next week the Michigan Tech Theater will perform C.S. Wallace’s Purple Hearts at the McArdle Theatre. Radcliffe says that the fictional retelling of three men waiting for rescue below the deck of the USS West Virginia during the attack on Pearl Harbor explores some deep parts of the human experience.

That said this is not a preachy play by any stretch of the imagination. It is a really beautiful, really intimate story about these three men. And there are moments where they antagonize each other, cruelly. And there are moments when they are ribbing one another in good fun. And there are moments when they hold each other. And say it’s alright, I’ve got you. And I think in life we all go through periods where maybe we are antagonized. Doing a little ribbing, or taking a ribbing. And there are moments, where I hope, we’re all grabbing somebody to say, it’s okay I’ve got you. – Nich Radcliffe, Visiting Professor, Michigan Technological University

Michigan Tech Theater’s performance of Purple Hearts will premiere next Wednesday, with a total of four shows. Tickets for the performance are exclusively paid as you are able, with ticket options ranging from 7 to 20 dollars.
