High School

Levi Frahm from the Jeffers High School basketball team has been named to the All-UP Dream Team. Voting by the U.P. Sportswriters and Sportscasters Association was released yesterday. Jets teammate Matthew Schutz was named to the Division One through Three first team. Houghton’s Luke Hill was placed on the second team. Honorable mention votes went to Isaiah Lawson from Houghton, and Alan Bjorn, Gavin Sturos and Blake Tarvis from Calumet.

Gabe Popko from Lake Linden-Hubbell was placed on the Division Four first team. Danny Marcotte of the Lakes, Liam Tourtillott from Dollar Bay-Tamarack City, and Austin Gordon from Ewen-Trout Creek made the second team.

NBA

The Pistons lost to the Hawks 121-113 last night. With Cade Cunningham sidelined because of his gimpy knee, Malachi Flynn came off the bench to score 50 points for Detroit – 33 in the second half. Flynn came to Detroit from the Knicks as part of the Bojan Bogdanović trade deadline deal. His outburst last night fell seven points shy of the Detroit all-time record, and one point short of the NBA record for points scored by a player coming off the bench.

The Pistons visit the Grizzlies tomorrow evening. Detroit has six games remaining in the season.

College Basketball

The Michigan Tech men’s basketball team has added a late signee. Layne Risdon averaged 19 points per game at Zeeland High School this past season.

NHL

The Red Wings host the Islanders tomorrow. Coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

MLB

For the second straight night, the Tigers and Mets were rained out in New York.

Both of those lost games will be made up this afternoon in a straight doubleheader. Casey Mize will start the opener, and Matt Manning will be called up from Toledo to start the nightcap. Coverage will begin at 11:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Brewers suffered their first loss of the season yesterday, falling 7-3 to the Twins. Minnesota broke the game open with five runs in the seventh off Joel Payamps and Bryse Wilson. Rhys Hoskins and Jackson Chourio homered for the Crew. Chourio’s was his first in the majors. Twenty-three days past his 20th birthday, he becomes the youngest Milwaukee player to hit a home run since Gary Sheffield in 1988.

The Brewers have today off, and host the Mariners tomorrow evening. Freddy Peralta will start against Logan Gilbert.

NFL

Brock Wright will remain a Detroit Lion. The team has reportedly agreed to match the offer he received from the 49ers as a restricted free agent. He’ll make $12 million over three years.
