Benishek Now Accepting 2015 Military Academy Nomination Applications

WASHINGTON, D.C.- Dr. Dan Benishek will now be accepting applications for nominations to the five United States Military Academies.  In order to attend any of the five academies, a nomination is required from a public official.  Last year, Dr. Benishek nominated 17 young men and women to the academies.

“Service in our nation’s military is an incredible opportunity and an honorable calling for young men and women in Northern Michigan.   I look forward to meeting this year’s applicants and to nominating another impressive list to the five service academies,” said Dr. Benishek.

Potential nominees are reviewed by an advisory committee comprised of an independent panel of current and former servicemembers from Northern Michigan.  In order to be considered for a nomination, interested individuals are instructed to visit Dr. Benishek’s website, where they can download application documents and additional information.
The deadline for applications is October 16th.  Applicants will be notified on December 18th.
To qualify for nomination, applicants must:

1. Be a citizen of the United States

2. A legal resident of Michigan’s First District

3. Have earned an above average academic record

4. Be 17-years-old, but not yet past one’s 23rd birthday (on July 1st of the year one enters a military academy)

5. Be medically qualified

6. Score near or above the published averages on a candidate fitness assessment

Applicants will be required to fill out an application form, submit academic transcripts, standardized test scores (ACT or SAT), three letters of recommendation, a resume and a short essay explaining why they want to attend a service academy.

Questions on the application process should be directed to the attention of Danielle Branz, who can be reached at 906-828-2114.
