NMU Foundation Plans Give 2 What You Love Giving Day to Celebrate 125 Year History

Northern Michigan University celebrates 125 years during its charter month of April with a call on alumni and friends of the university.

North Michigan University started as Northern State Normal College in 1899 to fulfill the need to educate teachers in the state’s remote Upper Peninsula. In 1963 the college changed its name from Northern Michigan College, after being granted university status in 1963, to what the community knows it as today.

Throughout that 125-year history, it has seen many graduates and notable alumni walk its campus and call Marquette home. On April 18th NMU Foundation will host the Give 2 What You Love Giving Day as an opportunity for faculty, staff, and alumni to reflect on the difference Northern Michigan has made in their life and careers.

Those interested in learning more about Northern Michigan University’s history and impact on the Upper Peninsula can find more details on how a donation to the university’s giving day will support education and research by students here.
