Houghton Students Bring Home Championship Awards at the Gogebic Community College Spring Quiz Bowl

Houghton students bring home first place in the Gogebic Community College annual Spring High School Quiz Bowl. Last Friday eighteen teams from eight Upper Peninsula high schools competed in the GCC Spring High School Quiz Bowl Invitational Tournament including students from Bessemer, Dollar Bay, Houghton, Hurley, Ironwood, Jeffers, Watersmeet, and West Iron County.

Houghton, I faced off against West Iron County I in the varsity final match-up, where Houghton took away the win in a core of 445 to 275.

In the Junior Varsity Division, the two schools held a rematch between Houghton and West Iron County. There Houghton also came out on top with a score of 430 to 240.

The annual spring quiz bowl tournament, sponsored each year by Gogebic Community College, brings together students and teachers from across the region to show off their knowledge and skills. Quiz Bowl Co-Organizer Dave Rowe says that the competition gives kids an opportunity to have fun and build their confidence and all should be congratulated for their stellar performances throughout the day.
