Obituary: John Albert Mills

John Albert Mills passed away peacefully on February 17, 2024 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital surrounded by family. John was born February 13, 1940 in Utica, Michigan to the late Albert and Mary (Morrison) Mills. He graduated from Utica High School in 1958. On September 23, 1960, he married the love of his life Linda (McMichael) in Utica, Michigan. Together, they made their home in Utica where John joined his father as a partner in the sign painting business, assuming ownership and continuing in that endeavor until 1974. John’s passion for the rural lifestyle and outdoor activities led him to relocate to the UP in Baraga County in 1974, where he built their family home in Aura and began a new career working for the Ontonagon REA as a lineman for 28 years until his retirement in 2002.

He was a hardworking and dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. John was a sportsman and enjoyed the hunting and fishing opportunities that drew him to the area. He enjoyed bowling, cards, family game night, his hobby farm & garden, antiquing, and wood working. Family and friends were his #1 priority and he always had a kind word for others.

He is survived by his wife Linda Mills of Aura; sons, Douglas (Cheryl) Mills of Aura and Donald (Barbara) Mills, Posen, Michigan; grand children, Rebecca (Austin) Ketterhagen, Rachel Mills, Sarah Mills, Alexis Mills, Sydney Horn, Jillian Mills, Jeremy Niedbala, Craig Niedbala; great grand children, Mia Horn; Finley Mills; Sadie Ketterhagen; Alivia, Cooper, and Sophia Niedbala; sister Nancy Carlen, Almont, Michigan; and several nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by parents Al and Mary, brother Robert (Ed) Mills, sister-in law Eileen Mills, brother-in-law Warren Carlen.

Per his request, there will be no funeral service. Jacobson Funeral Home is assisting the family.
