Copper Dog 150 organizers announce that the three-day race weekend will look a little different than the last 14 years. Unfortunately due to the winter’s lack of snowfall so far and the recent warm temperatures deteriorating trails CopperDog will cancel the 150, 80 30, and 15-mile races. Last night the race’s board of directors met with Keweenaw Trails to before making their final decision.
“Because of unsafe trail conditions, it doesn’t seem like we’re going to get the snowpack that’s going to be needed to safely pull this thing off. So we had to cancel the races. However all of the Saturday, Sunday, and Friday night activities in Claumet are going to stay as is.” – Krissy Tepsa, Volunteer and CopperPull Event Coordinator, CooperDog 150
Copper Dog continues to plan on having the traditional Friday night block party on March 1. Followed by the Copper Pull and Dash events on Saturday and Sunday. March 3rd will change up the typical musher banquet and seek to bring the community together for the love of Copperdog. In the coming weeks sponsors and sled teams should expect to hear from CopperDog leadership regarding reimbursements and inquiries about plans. Join us tomorrow when we learn more about the three days of fun Copper Dog organizers are planning in place of the normal race formats.
