Some Fresh Snow Expected During Free Snowmobile Weekend in the Copper Country

Free snowmobile weekend across Michigan starts today. While many parts of the state may not have much snow left on the trails the Upper Peninsula’s snowmobile clubs are hard at work each day grooming the region’s network of trails. Recently Keweenaw trails reports re-posted the Gogebic Snowmobile Club’s trail update letting riders know that crews across the region haven’t given up on the season.

Luckily Mother Nature should start dropping snowflakes this weekend. Snow showers are expected to start tomorrow morning in the Keweenaw Peninsula. Next week’s forecast also includes more snow. During Free Snowmobile Weekend the Michigan DNR allows residents and visitors to take their sled out without the need for a registration tag. DNR promotes the weekend as a statewide event to give more people an opportunity to explore the places they live work and play.

Throughout the season DNR and snowmobile clubs promote the idea of riding right. The multi-faceted campaign asks riders to ride on the right side of trails, keep a good pace for the entire party, and remain observant of trail conditions and groomer crews.
