This past year the state of Michigan began offering free school breakfast and lunch to all students. The issue of food insecurity among children has become one the state aims to reduce throughout communities. This summer qualified families will have an opportunity for their students to enjoy meals with the new Summer EBT program. Throughout the summer program, families will be able to purchase fruits and vegetables, dairy products, fish and meats, and other foods. Children eligible for the summer EBT program are part of a household enrolled in the Food Assistance Program, Family Independence Program, or Food Distribution Program in Indian Reservations, Foster children, those in the Head Start program, Children that meet the definition of homeless, runaway or migrant, and household within the federal income eligibility guidelines. Families hoping to have their child or students enrolled in the summer debt program will need to complete an application by tomorrow. Find more details about the Summer EBT Program here.
