In high school hockey last night…
• Jace DeForge scored twice, as Houghton edged Bay Port 2-1 in overtime. DeForge’s first goal early in the game held up until William Lyons of the Pirates found the net with six seconds remaining in regulation. The game-winner came 3:26 into the extra stanza. Connor Raffaelli assisted on both Houghton goals. Bryant Lee made 21 saves. The Gremlins improve to 18-0-1. Bay Port is rated the top Division One team in the state of Wisconsin by MYHockey.
• Hancock thumped De Pere 6-1.

• Houghton skates at Jeffers. Because of technical problems limiting the power of 97.7 The Wolf, the broadcast of the game has been moved to KBear 102.3, with coverage beginning at 12:40.
• Calumet hosts De Pere. Coverage will start at 3:40 on the Voice of the Copper Kings, KBear 102.3. Fans are invited to skate with the Kings following the game.
• Hancock hosts Bay Port in a 1:00 contest.
In girls basketball last night…
• Houghton defeated Kingsford 65-44. Danica Ryynanen scored 16 for the Gremlins. Eva Gerard added 14, and grabbed 10 rebounds. Anna Bortolini led the Flivvers with 14 points, and Alyvia Kowalski chipped in 12.
• Calumet lost at Escanaba 58-42.
• Dollar Bay-Tamarack City fell to Bessemer 66-60.
In boys action last night…
• Hancock trailed most of the game, before pulling out a 37-35 victory over Calumet. Lane Pennala’s three-pointer with 13.6 seconds remaining gave the Bulldogs the lead, as they held the Copper Kings to just four points in the final quarter. It was his only basket of the game. Alex Pietila scored 12 for Hancock. Micah Pieti paced the Copper Kings with nine points. Hear the game replay here.
• Jeffers sank Wakefield-Marenisco 74-54. The Jets improve to 14-1.
• Baraga fell to Ironwood 53-34.
• L’Anse stopped Ontonagon 59-45.
• Ewen-Trout Creek got past Stephenson 51-40.
• Dollar Bay-Tamarack City lost to Bessemer 43-34.
The Houghton swim team travels to Rudyard today for a three-way meet that also includes Sault Ste. Marie.
College Basketball
Both Michigan Tech basketball teams play at Northern Michigan this afternoon.
College Hockey
The Michigan Tech hockey team fell 3-1 at Lake Superior State last night. Isaac Gordon scored the Huskies’ only goal. Blake Pietila stopped 28 of 30 shots he faced. Those teams skate again tonight in Sault Ste. Marie.
The Northern Michigan hockey squad skated to a 2-2 tie at Minnesota State last night. Matvei Kabanov scored in regulation for the Wildcats, then found the net again as Northern claimed the bonus CCHA standings point in the shootout. Beni Halasz made 22 saves. Those teams meet again this evening in Mankato.
College Football
The University of Michigan didn’t have to look far to find its new head football coach. Offensive coordinator Sherrone Moore was introduced as the Wolverines’ new leader yesterday. He earned praise for his handling of the team when former head coach Jim Harbaugh served a pair of two-game suspensions this past season, which included wins over Penn State and Ohio State.
GLHL
The Portage Lake Pioneers downed the Fond du Lac Bears 7-2 last night. The Pioneers will entertain the Waterford Sharks from downstate tonight at 7:30 at the Colosseum.
The Calumet Wolverines couldn’t hold early leads, and fell to the Sharks 11-6 last night. They’ll host the Bears this evening at 7:00.
NHL
The Red Wings welcome the Golden Knights this evening. Coverage will begin at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
Goaltender Ville Husso is on his way back to Detroit. After five weeks rehabbing a lower body injury, Husso turned in a shutout in a rehab start for the Grand Rapids Griffins last evening.
NBA
The Pistons entertain the Wizards this afternoon. Coverage will start at 11:35 on 99.3 The Lift.
NFL
The NFL conference championship games will be played tomorrow.
