In the final game of the Gibson Cup series Saturday night, the Portage Lake Pioneers scored four unanswered goals in the third period… and defeated the Calumet Wolverines 6-3. The Pioneers maintain possession of the Gibson Cup… winning the best-of-three series three games to two.

In the N-H-L… Darren Helm’s hat trick led the Red Wings to a 4-2 victory over the Maple Leafs. The Wings host the Lightning this afternoon.

In the N-B-A Saturday night… the Pistons hit a new low… falling to the 76ers 123-98. The 25-point win snapped the 76ers’ 26-game losing streak… leaving them tied with the 2010-2011 Cavaliers for the longest stretch of futility in league history. The Pistons host the Bucks tomorrow night. Hear the broadcast on AM 1400, WCCY.

In the quarterfinals of the NCAA basketball tournament this afternoon… Michigan State takes on Connecticut at 1:20… and Michigan faces Kentucky at 4:05. Hear both games on AM 1400, WCCY. The winners will face each other in one tournament semifinal on Saturday. Wisconsin and Florida will meet in the other.

In baseball exhibition action yesterday, the Tigers’ game against the Nationals was rained out. The Tigers open the regular season at home tomorrow afternoon against the Royals. Hear the game on AM 1400, WCCY.

Marco Estrada threw five shutout innings, as the Brewers beat the Royals 7-2 in their final exhibition game yesterday afternoon. The Brewers open the regular season at home against the Braves tomorrow.

The Finlandia University softball team lost both of their games to Wisconsin-River Falls Friday night. In the first game, the Falcons scored four times in the fifth, and four times in the sixth, en route to a  9-3 victory. In the nightcap, the Lions led 4-1 going into the seventh inning, but River Falls scored four in the bottom of the seventh to earn a 5-4 walk-off victory.

The Michigan Tech men’s tennis team lost 8-1 at Wayne State yesterday afternoon… and play at Northwood this morning.
