In girls action…
• Houghton got past Iron Mountain 55-47. Danica Ryynanen had 24 points for the Gremlins, and Eva Gerard added 10 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.
• Calumet stopped Ontonagon 55-32. The Copper Kings held the Gladiators without a field goal until the final second of the first quarter. Caitlyn Strom scored 18 for the Copper Kings. Millie Loukus added 16, and Bailey Strom 13. Madyson Pertti led the Gladiators with nine points. Hear the game replay here.
• L’Anse outscored North Dickinson 50-33.

• Houghton overwhelmed West Iron County 100-22.

College Hockey
After winning the title at the Great Lakes Invitational, the Michigan Tech hockey team has swept the latest Central Collegiate Hockey Association Player of the Week honors. GLI MVP Jack Works was named the Offensive Player of the Week, Blake Pietila the Goaltender of the Week, and Chase Pietila both the Defenseman and Rookie of the Week.
NHL
David Perron scored two goals in the third period, as the Red Wings earned a 5-3 comeback victory over the Sharks last night. Perron tied the game 11 minutes into the final stanza, then netted the game-winner with 90 seconds remaining. Daniel Sprong and J.T. Compher scored earlier, and Michael Rasmussen chipped in a late empty-netter. Alex Lyon made 24 saves.
The Wings visit the Kings tomorrow. Coverage will begin at 10:15 on 99.3 The Lift.
NBA

MLB
A couple of former Tigers have found new homes. Utility player Niko Goodrum has signed a minor league contract with the Twins. Goodrum played in Detroit from 2018 to 2021. He spent most of 2022 with the Astros, and some of last season in the Red Sox minor league system, before finishing the season in Korea.
Outfielder Derek Hill has signed a minor league deal with the Rangers. Hill spent most of last season with the Nationals’ Triple-A team in Rochester.
