High School
In high school hockey last night…
• Houghton routed Negaunee 12-1 in a game that ended early in the third period because of the mercy rule. Conner Arko and Brody Donnelly each scored twice for the Gremlins. Noah Maillette, Oscar Peterson, Jack Sayen, Jace Deforge, Grant Schaible, Teegan Tapini, Mike Maillette, and Tanner Flachs also found the net. Cooper Flachs got the win in goal, as the Gremlins outshot the Miners 32-5.
In hockey tonight…
• Jeffers skates at Calumet. Coverage will begin at 6:40 on the Voice of the Copper Kings, KBear 102.3.
• Hancock travels to Escanaba for a 7:00 game.
In boys high school basketball last evening…
• Houghton stopped Hancock 55-27.
• Lake Linden-Hubbell shut down Calumet 59-25. Gabe Popko of the Lakes led all scorers with 24.
• Chassell scored 32 points in the second quarter, and cruised past L’Anse 78-38. Eli Danison led the Panthers with 18 points, and Oliver Campbell added 15. JJ Beeler scored 11 for the Purple Hornets.
In girls play last night…
• Calumet fell to Ishpeming 54-28.
• Chassell lost to Stephenson 44-30.

NHL
The Red Wings lost 2-1 the Hurricanes last night. Michael Rasmussen scored Detroit’s only goal. Ville Husso made 37 saves, but took the loss in net.
The Wings visit the Flyers tomorrow night.
Dylan Larkin skated with the team in practice yesterday, five days after he was knocked out during Detroit’s recent loss to the Senators. He’ll still miss at least the next two games.
NBA
The Pistons will entertain the 76ers tonight. Coverage will start at 6:35 on 99.3 The Lift.
NFL
In last night’s NFL game, four days after they were shut out by the Vikings, the Raiders overwhelmed the Chargers 63-21. It’s the most points ever scored by the Raiders, and the most ever allowed by the Chargers.
The Lions host the Broncos tomorrow night in an 8:15 contest, with coverage on 99.3 The Lift. We’ll also broadcast tomorrow’s 12:30 game between the Vikings and Bengals, and the 4:15 contest between the Colts and Steelers.
The Packers welcome the Buccaneers in a 1:00 game Sunday.
Lions safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson has been cleared to rejoin the team. Gardner-Johnson tore a pectoral muscle in week two, and it was feared he might miss the rest of the season. Instead, he could begin practicing as early as next week.
MLB
The Tigers have signed a one-year deal with free agent starter Jack Flaherty, reported to be worth $14 million plus some incentives. Flaherty finished fourth in the National League Cy Young vote in 2019 with the Cardinals, then was derailed by shoulder surgery. He went 8-9 with a 4.99 earned run average last year for the Cardinals and Orioles.
The Brewers also added a pitcher, obtaining Taylor Clarke from the Royals in exchange for two minor leaguers. Clarke went 3-6 with a 5.95 earned run average last season in 56 relief appearances and two starts.
