Obituary: Carol A. Boever

As received from the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel:

Carol A. Boever, age 59 of L’Anse, MI passed away Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at UP Health System, Marquette, MI surrounded by her family. She was born in L’Anse, MI on September 8, 1964, the daughter of the late James and Bernice (Kemppainen) Rock. Carol graduated from Baraga High School in 1982 and attended Northern Michigan University. After college she moved to Austin, Texas and then to Tennessee, where she lived for a short period of time. She later worked for the old Pat’s Foods grocery store on US-41 in L’Anse as a Night Manager and then began her health care career at Baraga County Memorial Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit (SNU), Baraga County Home Care and Hospice, and retired from Bayside Village as a Certified Nursing Assistant. Carol also used to be part of the Baraga Fire Departments Women’s Auxiliary group, and she was also a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Baraga.

Carol was very energetic, had a heart of gold, an infectious laugh, and as friendly as they came. She could easily strike up a conversation with anyone, anywhere she went. She was always a joy to be around, and her smile would light up a room. She loved deeply and cared about her friends and family more than anything in the world. She also cared greatly for her community, and she would have given the shirt off her back to anyone in need if given the opportunity.

Carol loved her music, with classic rock being her favorite genre. You could catch her jamming, singing, or dancing along to any of her favorite musicians like Mary Chapin Carpenter, Heart, or Bob Seger, etc, anywhere she went. She also liked nothing more than spending time with her granddaughter Maizie. They would lie on the floor and play for hours, go for walks, play in the yard, dance, and sing “You are my Sunshine” which was Carol’s favorite song to sing to her since the day she was born. Maizie was truly her sunshine and she loved her more than anything else.

Carol also really enjoyed taking pictures. No matter the gathering or event, you could count on her to snap some photos to capture the moment. She also loved snowshoeing (she always snowshoed a heart in her front yard every winter) kayaking, boating, swimming, hiking, berry picking, and being outdoors with her friends and family. She enjoyed bowling, watching the Dallas Cowboys, and loved attending her boys’ sporting events. From the time they were kids throughout adulthood, she would watch as they played youth sports up to summer league softball, and then when they coached their respective sports. She would never miss a game and would always tell them how much she loved them and how proud she was of them.

Carol is survived by her loving sons Chris Boever and Jon Boever both of Baraga, her ex-spouse of 32 years Bill Boever of Baraga, granddaughter Maizie Boever, sisters Connie (Alvin) Mueller of South Range, and Lori Morin (Mark Radke) of Baraga. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, grandson Kohen, sister Renee Rock Marion, brother Steve Rock, and special aunties Mildred, Laila, and Lorraine.
