Michigan DNR to Share Project Designs Potential of Douglass Houghton Falls Next Week

The Michigan DNR understands that the local area has become interested in potential improvements made at Douglass Houghton Falls. A couple of years ago, the state began to take over the location, with intentions to turn the area into some sort of publicly accessible scenic site. The Michigan Department of Natural Resources wishes to continue to understand the desires of the local community surrounding the Douglass Houghton falls, and the potential for development and opportunities. Next Wednesday the MDNR will ask the community to meet with the department and UP Engineers and Architects for a presentation that will share conceptual designs for development at the state scenic site, Douglass Houghton Falls. Those interested in attending the meeting can meet with the Michigan DNR and Up engineers in the Lake Linden High School auditorium next Wednesday, December 6th, beginning at 6:30 pm. In 2018 the DNR purchased the 115 acre site from a private landowner with the use of an MDNR

trust fund grant for 300,000 dollars. The site is home to the tallest waterfall in Michigan at 110 feet. After the department purchased the property, it received two separate grants to develop the location into a public scenic site with a parking lot, toilet, pathways, information kiosk, observation deck, and safety fencing.
