Representative Scott Dianda is proposing that gas stations in very small communities like those in the Upper Peninsula be allowed to sell beer and wine.
Currently, gas stations that sell beer and wine must maintain at least $10,000 in inventory.
The bill would waive that requirement for businesses located in a township with a population density of less than 4 people per square mile within a county with a population density of less than 11 people per square mile.
Dianda testified before a meeting of the House Regulatory Reform Committee that this bill would allow local businesses in small U.P. communities to better serve their customers without having to stock more inventory than they really need.
Cliff View Bar owner Jim Wilmers of Keweenaw County and Keweenaw ATV Trail Club former president Mike McMahon also testified in support of the bill.
