Copper Shores Outreach and Education and Keweenaw Support 4 Healthy Minds Offer QPR Training for Suicide Awareness

CPR can help save a life in the case of cardiac arrest. Just like how QPR may help prevent suicide. Later this week Copper Shores Outreach and Education with Keweenaw Support 4 Healthy Minds will host a suicide prevention training opportunity in L’Anse.

The program title Questions, Persuade, and Refer (QPR), encourages the community to look out for signs someone may be struggling with suicidal thoughts or idealization. QPR training will teach people to become gatekeepers, who can learn to recognize the signs of a suicide crisis and how to question persuade, and refer someone to seek help. Gatekeepers can be anyone in the community from parents, teachers, and friends to first responders, medical professionals, team leaders, or project managers.

QPR training with Copper Shores and Keweenaw Healthy Minds will be led by Prevention Educator Lisa Simpson and Dr. Michelle Morgan. There is a maximum of 30 seats available in the program. Anyone over the age of 16 from the community is encouraged to join the two groups this Wednesday for QPR training. Copper Shores and Keweenaw Healthy Minds do ask that those interested RSVP for the event. QPR training will take place on Wednesday at the L’Anse Masonic Lodge at 6 pm. Light refreshments will be available. To RSVP please contact Lisa Simpson with Copper Shores Outreach and Education at 906 482 9077 or email email lsimpson@coppershores.org.
