Chris Salani Selected as Hancock Public Schools’ New Superintendent

Hancock Public Schools has a new superintendent. Since the start of the school year, Chris Salani has worn many hats, taking on the interim superintendent role. While continuing his duties as the district’s athletic director, and high school principal. Salani was the Hancock Public School’s Board of Education’s single internal candidate for the position.
Born, raised, and educated in Hancock, Salani says he bleeds crimson and gold. Most of his professional experience comes from an administration type of role, though Salani did spend some time as a physical education teacher a Barkell Elementary.
He knows many of the challenges facing the district and has plans to tackle them head-on, with collaboration from the school board, great faculty, and a strong community. In the recent superintendent survey, many respondents noted declining enrollment as a major challenge in the district.

“Empower our bulldog community. And I had to think long and hard about how i wanted to phrase that. Because I don’t know many communities outside of our bulldog community that is quite as empowered by the tradition and pride that we have. I think all of the people here could attest to that. But in a different way of saying it. To utilize the community as a resource in that promotion. We have to be, as Ill talk about, intentional in who we are and also in that messaging.” Chris Salani, Superintendent, Hancock Public Schools
Board President Catherine Jordan, Vice President Michael Lancour, and Treasurer Wendy Chynoweth will make up the committee in charge of leading the superintendent contract negotiations. During the following weeks, Salani will search to fill the positions left vacant as the district athletic director, and high school principal.
