In the N-H-L… Gustav Nyquist’s third period goal lifted the Red Wings to a 3-2 victory over the Wild Saturday afternoon. Brendan Smith and David Legwand each had a goal and an assist, and Jimmy Howard stopped 28 shots. The Wings have won three in a row, and face the Wild again tonight… this time, at home. Faceoff is at 7:30 on AM 1400, WCCY.

In G-L-H-L action… the score of the Portage Lake Pioneers game against the DePere Deacons Friday night was not reported.

Logan Rastello’s goal with four seconds remaining lifted the Calumet Wolverines to a 6-5 victory at Eagle River Friday evening. The goal was Rastello’s fourth of the night. The score of the Wolverines’ game against DePere Saturday night was not reported.

The Gibson Cup series between the Pioneers and Wolverines opens Thursday night. We’ll broadcast all the games on KBear 102.3 and KBear102.com.

In the N-B-A last night… the Pistons lost to the Clippers 112-103. Detroit scored only 15 points in the third quarter, en route to their fifth straight loss, and 15th in their last 18 games. Jonas Jerebko scored 22 points off the bench to lead Detroit. The Pistons play at Utah Monday night. Tip-off is at 9:00 on AM1400, WCCY.

In the NCAA men’s basketball tournament, the University of Michigan advanced with a 79-65 victory over Texas… and will face the winner of the Mercer-Tennessee game in the Sweet 16. Michigan State defeated Harvard 80-73, and will meet the winner of the Virginia-Memphis contest.

The Finlandia baseball team doubleheader at Dominican University in suburban Chicago scheduled for today has been postponed.

In baseball spring training action yesterday, Kyle Lobstein gave up five runs in the first inning, and the Tigers fell to the Blue Jays 9-4. The Tigers will play the Marlins this afternoon.

The Brewers lost to the Angels 9-6. Kyle Lohse struck out seven over six innings, but also gave up four runs. Milwaukee committed four errors. The Brewers will play the Reds this afternoon.
