High School

The Lake Linden-Hubbell football team will play at Marion in an Eight-Player Division Two state semifinal this afternoon at 1:00. The Lakes carry an 8-3 record into the contest. The Eagles are unbeaten. The winner will face either Deckerville or Adrian Lenawee Christian for the state championship next Saturday at 2:00 at the Superior Dome.

College Hockey

The Michigan Tech hockey team doubled up Bemidji State 4-2 last evening. Arvid Caderoth had two goals and two assists. Lauri Raiman and Jack Works also scored. Blake Pietila had to make just 18 saves, as the Huskies outshot the Beavers 30-20. Those teams play again tonight in Minnesota.

Artem Schlaine’s hat trick led Northern Michigan to a 6-4 victory over Lake Superior State last night. The Wildcats host the Lakers again tonight.

College Volleyball

Michigan Tech dropped the first two sets, then came back to earn a narrow 3-2 (15-25, 23-25, 25-22, 26-24, 15-12) victory at Ferris State last night. Meg Raabe had 15 kills for the Huskies, and Rachel Zurek added 14. Tess Hayes logged 51 assists. The Huskies conclude their regular season at Lake Superior State today.

Northern Michigan got past Lake Superior State 3-1 (25-27, 25-18, 25-20, 25-17) last night, and finishes its regular season at Ferris State today.

College Football

Michigan Tech wraps up its football season against Saginaw Valley State at home today at 1:00. 

NMU concludes its season at home against Northern State.

College Basketball

The Michigan Tech women’s basketball team opened its season with a 76-57 victory over William Jewell at the GLIAC/GLVC Challenge yesterday. Isabella Lenz led the Huskies with 20 points.

The NMU women’s team used a strong fourth quarter to earn a 56-52 comeback win over Lewis University at the Challenge yesterday.

The Challenge wraps up at the SDC today, with Northern playing William Jewell at 4:00, and Tech facing Lewis at 6:00.

The Tech and Northern men’s teams are at the Midwest Regional Crossover Tournament at Wisconsin Dells. The Huskies will play Missouri S and T this afternoon, and Upper Iowa tomorrow afternoon. Northern will play Upper Iowa today, and Missouri S and T tomorrow.

College Soccer

The NMU women’s soccer team advanced to the GLIAC tournament championship game with a 4-1 victory over Ferris State yesterday. Parkside stunned second-seed Grand Valley State 1-0 in the other semifinal. The Wildcats and Rangers will play for the title tomorrow at 1:00 in Marquette.

The conference champion Wildcats dominated the GLIAC awards announced yesterday. Forward Molly Pistorius was named the Offensive Player of the Year. Midfielder Maria Storm was honored as Defensive Player of the Year. Jon Sandoval was named Coach of the Year. Michigan Tech’s Gracie VanLangevelde was named Goalkeeper of the Year. Other members of the all-conference first team include Tech’s Seulgi Lee and Northern’s Brooke Pietila. See the full list of GLIAC women’s soccer honorees here.

NHL

The Red Wings host the Blue Jackets this afternoon, with coverage at 12:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA

The Pistons lost their seventh straight game last night, falling 114-106 to the 76ers in the opening round of the NBA’s new In-Season Tournament. Killian Hayes led Detroit with 23 points, and Ausar Thompson grabbed 16 rebounds. Jalen Duren left the game with a sore ankle, and could miss some time.

The Pistons visit the Bulls tomorrow night.

NFL

The Packers visit the Steelers for a 1:00 game tomorrow. Linebacker Quay Walker and cornerback Jaire Alexander have been tagged as doubtful for the game.

The Lions visit the Chargers for a 4:05 contest tomorrow, with coverage on 99.3 The Lift. Guard Jonah Jackson, center Frank Ragnow and running back David Montgomery are expected to return to the lineup. Newly-acquired receiver Donovan Peoples-Jones could miss the game because of a rib injury.

The Raiders host the Jets in the Sunday night game, also broadcast on 99.3 The Lift.

MLB

Tyler Alexander is no longer a Detroit Tiger. Alexander was claimed off waivers by the Rays yesterday, after having been designated for assignment on Monday.
