Over 150 Stakeholders Contribute to the Hancock Public Schools Superintendent Search Survey

Hancock Public Schools had a wide range of respondents to the district’s superintendent survey. A little over 150 people in the community submitted a survey to the district, the majority of those having lived in the district for more than 10 years. The survey asked a variety of questions that would help the district identify the district’s largest stakeholders, as well as break down many respondents’ relationships with the district. Whether they be parents of current or future students, district employees, some students, board members, and many others in the area.

Working with the district on the superintendent search is the Michigan Association of School Boards, Mary Brayak. She says that she hasn’t seen a community so invested in the district search as the community of Hancock Public Schools. Many of the survey submissions voiced common district strengths, such as students teachers, administration, and the community. Other offered some of the district challenges as declining enrollment, a lack of resources, and losses in staff. The survey also identified the district’s desires for the superintendent, including a strong desire for someone with a master’s education, and a professional background as a teacher and administrator.

After reviewing the survey’s responses, the board began identifying various questions for next week’s interviews. Next Monday the district will plan to hold internal interviews, as the board saw a strong desire among the community to find someone with a tie to the local area. Searching for a superintendent within the district could easily fill that desire. Next Monday’s superintendent interviews will begin at 5 p.m. during a special meeting of the Hancock Public School Board of Education.
