Keweenaw Family Resource Center Introduces New Programming for Dads of the Copper Country

Dad plays a major role in the development of a child. Over the years, the Keweenaw Family Resource Center says that dads have begun taking on larger child-rearing roles in the household. Whether parents are splitting care responsibilities, or a father operates as a stay-at-home father. Later this week, KFRC will welcome to the region a new program, geared toward dad, and helping support relationships between their kids and themselves.

“I think we need similar types of support, but just like moms. Dads are going to know what dads are going through a little bit better than moms are. Moms are going to know what moms are going through. So we do have a very exciting program that we are starting this year. It’s a four-year partnership with Children’s Trust Michigan, and it’s our fatherhood initiative. Which will be composed of a number of community cafes, or dad cafés as we like to call them. And then a more formal program called 24/7 Dad.” – Kevin Weir, Project Coordinator, Keweenaw Family Resource Center

Dad Café with the Keweenaw Family Resource Center will take place on Thursday. The café offers a relaxed setting for fathers in the area to meet and talk about their responsibilities, support for all family dynamics, and strategies for raising children. Those interested in the program, and have questions can contact Kevin Weir with the Keweenaw Family Resource Center for more information.
