Lakes, Hornets, Panthers Claim Volleyball Wins – Friday Sports Wrap

High School

The regular high school volleyball season wrapped up last night…
• Houghton fell to Kingsford 3-0 (25-23, 25-21, 25-23).
• L’Anse pulled out a 3-2 victory over Ontonagon (24-26, Set 2: 25-16, 25-22, 22-25, 11-15). Mylee Londo led the Purple Hornets with 16 kills and six aces. Brooklyn Dompier had 10 kills and eight aces, Emmy Mensch had five kills and four aces, Madi Peterson had 34 assists.
• Lake Linden-Hubbell swept Dollar Bay-Tamarack City 3-0 (25-17, 25-15, 25-23). For the Lakes, Abi Codere and Becca Lyons each had seven kills, Amy Mahrley had four aces, Payton Goldsworthy had 16 assists.
• Chassell got past Watersmeet 3-1 (25-23, 24-26, 25-19, 25-10). Kylee Sohlden had 10 kills, three blocks and two aces for the Panthers. Gracie Moyle had 19 assists and seven aces, Dusty Lippold had seven kills and two aces, and Whitney Walitalo had five kills and five aces.

The Lake Linden-Hubbell football team hosts Forest Park in an Eight-Player Division Two regional semifinal game tomorrow. Kickoff is at 1:30 at Warner Field. North Central will play at Posen in the other regional semifinal.

In other games involving Upper Peninsula teams this weekend…
• In Eight-Player Division One, Rudyard plays at Pickford, and Norway hosts Newberry in Region One. In Region Two, Saint Ignace entertains Central Lake, and Inland Lakes hosts Alcona. All of those games will be played tonight.
• In Division Eight, Iron Mountain hosts Glen Lake tonight, and Ishpeming travels to East Jordan tomorrow.
• In Division Seven, Menominee welcomes Benzie Central tomorrow, and Charlevoix hosts Traverse City Saint Francis tonight.
• In Division Six, Negaunee entertains Grayling, and Gladstone hosts Boyne City. Both of those games will be played tonight.
• In Division Five, Kingsford welcomes Howard City Tri-County tomorrow, and Gladwin plays at Ogemaw Heights tonight.
• In Division Three, Marquette hosts Petoskey, and Bay City Western plays at Gaylord. Both of those games are tonight.

Dollar Bay-Tamarack City Schools Athletics will host a Fall Festival fundraiser in the school’s lower gym today from 3 until 5. Enjoy carnival-style activities such as Plinko, a duck pond, balloon darts, a clothespin drop, a basketball shoot, baseball bowling, face painting, and many more. The public is welcome.

College Hockey

The Michigan Tech hockey team skates at Saint Lawrence tonight, and Clarkson tomorrow. After opening the season in the national top-10, the winless Huskies have fallen to Honorable Mention level in both national polls.

The Northern Michigan hockey team welcomes Ferris State tonight and tomorrow.

College Volleyball

The Michigan Tech volleyball squad plays at Davenport tonight, and 20th-ranked Grand Valley State tomorrow afternoon.

The 12th-ranked Northern volleyball team visits Grand Valley tonight, and Davenport tomorrow.

College Soccer

The Tech soccer team hosts Ferris State today at 4:00, and Saginaw Valley State Sunday at noon.

The NMU women’s soccer team welcomes Saginaw Valley State today, and Ferris State on Sunday.

The NMU men’s team opens the GLIAC playoffs tomorrow night at Davenport.

College Football

The Michigan Tech football team plays at third-ranked Grand Valley State tomorrow.

The NMU football squad entertains Wayne State.

NHL

The Red Wings fell to the Maple Leafs 4-1 last night. Lucas Raymond scored Detroit’s only goal. James Reimer made 25 saves, and took the loss in net.

The Wings visit the Bruins tomorrow, with coverage beginning at 6:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

NBA

The Pistons visit the Hornets tonight. Coverage will begin at 6:35 on 99.3 The Lift.

MLB

The World Series begins tonight, as the Rangers host the Diamondbacks.

NFL

The Bills outscored the Buccaneers 24-18 in last night’s NFL game. 

The Packers host the Vikings in a 1:00 game Sunday.

The Lions entertain the Raiders Monday night on 99.3 The Lift.
