Obituary: Michele Brey

Michele O. “Mickey” Brey, 69, a longtime resident of Ripley, passed away at the Stanton House in South Range on Friday, October 20, 2023. She resided there for the past two years.

Mickey was born in Hancock on July 27, 1954 to the late Alfred and Irene (Olive) Brey and lived her entire life in Ripley. She loved to go to the Copper Bowl Lanes to bowl, and she enjoyed riding her bike and walking around her Ripley neighborhood. She also liked building puzzles and listening to the radio. She worked with her friends at the Copper Country Workshop for many years. She was a member of the Church of the Resurrection in Hancock.

Besides her parents, she was also preceded in death by her siblings Gary Brey and Gail Laajala. She is survived by her brothers, Donald Brey of Florida and Richard Brey of Ripley, by a special niece, Jill Laux, a special cousin, Cathy Dicks, and by numerous other nieces, nephew, great nieces, great nephews, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held at 7:00 P.M. on Wednesday, October 25, 2023 at the O’Neill-Dennis Funeral Home in Hancock with Deacon Martin Thompson from the Church of the Resurrection to officiate. Burial will be at Forest Hill Cemetery in Houghton at 10 A.M. on Thursday.

Friends may call at the O’Neill-Dennis Funeral Home on Wednesday from 6:00 P.M. until the 7 P.M. time of services.

A special thank you to Aspirus Hospice and the caring staff at the Stanton House. Also, to Copper Country Mental Health nurse JoEllen Howard, group home supervisor Sam Menghini, and case worker Lori Aho for their compassionate and loving care of Mickey.
