High School

In high school football last night…
• Calumet’s season ended with a 28-21 loss to Gladstone. After spotting the Braves a touchdown on a two-yard run by Eli Berthaume on their opening drive, the Kings scored three times in the second quarter to build a 21-7 lead. Ted Loukus connected with Cam Anderson on a 20-yard scoring pass. Anderson scored on a one-yard run, and Loukus tossed a 34-yard touchdown pass to Ben Anderson on a flea flicker play. The Braves regrouped at halftime, though. The Gladstone defense didn’t allow Calumet a first down in the second half. The offense constructed three scoring drives, each capped by short Berthaume plunges. The Copper Kings will finish their campaign with a record of 4-5, including the forfeit win over L’Anse in the game that was supposed to close their season next Friday. L’Anse has canceled its season because of low numbers and injuries. It’s the first time since 2013 that the Copper Kings have missed the playoffs. Hear the game replay here.
• Houghton fell to Negaunee 13-6.
• Hancock lost to Westwood 28-14. It was the first win of the season for the Patriots.
• Lake Linden-Hubbell spotted Gogebic a 6-0 lead, then roared back to claim a 40-14 victory. Danny Marcotte ran for 137 yards and three touchdowns, and passed for another score. Sammy Roberts rushed for 113 yards and one TD.
