The Village of L’Anse has officially welcomed its newest fire truck.
The 2005 Pierce Dash vehicle becomes the first aerial truck owned by the L’Anse Fire Department. It was purchased from a fire department in Howell Township, New Jersey, and driven to its new home by members of the L’Anse Department. The cost was covered by Baraga County, the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community, L’Anse Township, and the Village of L’Anse.
The aerial truck features a 95-foot ladder and a 2,000 gallons per minute pump. Fire Chief Corey Frisk said it will be far more effective than the department’s existing ladder trucks to deliver water from above a fire, and far safer for the firefighters.

At last night’s meeting, council members also approved payment for construction of the new floating dock at the marina. Village Manager Bob LaFave said the new dock was installed recently, and replaced one that had worn out…
The underside of the new dock has a protective aluminum surface.
Most of the cost of the new dock was covered by a Michigan Department of Natural Resources grant.
In other village news, Public Works Director Lyle Olsen said some fire hydrant flushing will take place over the next several weeks. If residents notice their water is discolored, running it for a few minutes should clear it up. L’Anse power customers will also experience another planned outage. Power will be cut for about 20 minutes at 10 a.m. on October 5th, so upgrades can be made to an UPPCO substation.
