College Soccer

The NMU men’s soccer team shaded Quincy University 1-0 yesterday. Tommaso Lami’s goal off a penalty kick in the 70th minute was the game-winner.

MLB

The Tigers completed a sweep of their weekend series against the White Sox with a 3-2 victory yesterday. Tarik Skubal gave up both Chicago runs in the first inning, then settled in and struck out seven over seven frames. Detroit tied the game with Carson Kelly’s two-run double in the top of the second inning. Spencer Torkelson’s 25th home run of the year in the seventh inning was the game-winner.

The Tigers have today off, and visit the Yankees tomorrow night. Coverage will begin at 6:40 on 99.3 The Lift.

Bennett Sousa’s term in the Tigers’ organization was a brief one. After claiming the reliever off waivers from the Brewers in late August and assigning him to Toledo, Detroit put him back on waivers Friday. He was claimed by the Astros.

The Brewers couldn’t hold an early lead, and lost 4-2 to the Phillies yesterday. William Contreras and Mark Canha homered for Milwaukee, but it was home runs by Alec Bohm and J.T Realmuto off Wade Miley in the seventh that brought Philadelphia from behind.

The Brewers visit the Pirates tonight. Corbin Burnes will start for the Crew.

The Cubs defeated the Reds, so Milwaukee’s lead in the National League Central Division shrinks to three-and-a-half games over Chicago. Cincinnati is six-and-a-half back.
