Coast Guard Rescues Three People from Capsized Vessel Near Michigan-Wisconsin Boarder

Three people were rescued Tuesday from a capsized vessel near Saxon Harbor, Wisconsin. On Tuesday, just before 11:30 am, the coast guard received a distressed radio broadcast from a person reporting that their vessel was rapidly taking on water. The coast guard was able to locate the vessel’s position five miles north of Saxon Harbor, near the Michigan – Wisconsin boarder, using VHF radio data. A 45 foot response vessel was dispatched from the Coast Guard’s Bayfield station. The rescue boat arrived to the location approximately 45 minutes after the initial mayday, and was able to located the capsized vessel with three adults clinging to it. The vessel occupants were brought aboard the rescue boat and transported to Saxon Harbor for medical treatment. The coast guard encourages boaters to check safety equipment such as VHF radios, and life-jackets, prior to heading out, especially as water temperatures begin to cool below 50 degrees Fahrenheit.
