Houghton Calls Special Meeting to Allocate Match Funds Prior to Submitting Paperwork for a Community Center Grant

The city of Houghton has called a special meeting to officially apply for a state grant that would complete improvements at the Dee Stadium. As Houghton continues work as a redevelopment ready community, the city will look to continue the Dee Stadium’s legacy as a main focus of the community. If awarded a Community Center Grant with the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity, the city would look to make a number of improvements to the building including installing a new elevator, exterior facade improvements, and work to stabilize climate control inside the building. The grant allows up to two point five million dollars in funding.

Houghton will need to determine how much the city plans to allocate toward the project prior to submitting as a part of the application process. The special meeting will begin at 4:30 pm at City Center in downtown Houghton.
