NHL – Red Wings Edge Lightning
Petr Mrazek made 44 saves, as the Detroit Red Wings opened the NHL playoffs with a 3-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning last night. Pavel Datsyuk scored twice for Detroit. Luke Glendening’s short-handed goal in the third period proved to be the game-winner. Game two of the best-of-seven series will be played in Tampa tomorrow afternoon at 3:00. MLB – Brewers Fall, Gomez to DL

The Milwaukee Brewers lost to the Saint Louis Cardinals 4-0 yesterday afternoon. Mike Fiers pitched five scoreless innings, but surrendered two runs in the sixth, and took the loss.

The Brewers open a weekend set at Pittsburgh tonight. Jimmy Nelson will start against Jeff Locke.

Milwaukee centerfielder Carlos Gomez is headed to the disabled list. Gomez left Wednesday’s game with a hamstring problem. Doctors found a slight tear in the muscle yesterday.

The Finlandia University baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader at Hope College yesterday afternoon, 22-1 and 11-0.

Michigan Tech will play its 2015 spring intrasquad football game tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 at Sherman Field. There is no admission charge. Members of Michigan Tech’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee will be collecting donations and selling wristbands to support autism awareness.

The Houghton-Hancock Alumni Hockey Game will be played tonight at Dee Stadium. Doors open at 6:00, with face-off at 7:00. Tickets are $5.00 for adults, $3.00 for students, and kids ages 11 and under get in free. Additional fundraising events will be held at the game.
