Hancock City Council Asked To Consider Allowing Chickens On Residential Property

Would you like to raise chickens in your backyard?  Some Hancock residents would and they are seeking permission from the city to do so.

A proposed ordinance was presented to the city council Wednesday that outlines suggested regulations for maintaining a chicken coop on residential properties.

Of course, not all residents were pleased to hear the poultry proposition and raised questions concerning the odor and the attraction of predators into the city.

The city council agreed to form a special subcommittee to look into the proposal and will report back to the council at next month’s meeting.

If there are no issues, a public hearing on the raising of chickens in Hancock could be held as early as June.
