Obituary: Judith Juntunen

     Judith Juntunen, 89, a resident of the Bluff’s Senior Living Community and former Obenhoff resident, passed away Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at UP Health Systems – Marquette Hospital where she had been a patient for the past three days.

     She was born on June 13, 1934, in Redridge a daughter of the late Alex and Emma (Berg) Hannula.  Judy was raised in Redridge, attended the Redridge School and was a graduate of the Houghton High School with the class of 1951.

     On November 1, 1952, she was united in marriage to Arlen Juntunen.  The couple had resided in Obenhoff where they raised their family.  On May 15, 2010, Arlen preceded Judy in death.

     Mrs. Juntunen had worked as a rural route mail delivery person for 40 years retiring in 2010.

     Judith was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in South Range.  She also was active with the Stanton Senior Citizens, the Portage Health Hospital Guild and enjoyed spending time with her family and many friends.

     Preceding her in death were her husband Arlen, her daughter Nicole Manquen, 5 brothers, 2 sisters along with her parents.

     Surviving are:

            Her children: Sherri (Wayne) Gaddis of Atlantic Mine

                                    Connie Turner of South Range

                                    Tony (Deborah) Juntunen of Atlantic Mine

            Her former son-in-law: Larry Turner of Houghton

            Her grandchildren:

                        Lillian Pethtel, John Gaddis, Anna Pliett, Mary Wissman, Isaac Gaddis, Andy Turner, Katie Hibbard, Shannon Sebela, Charlie Turner, Molly Mehan, Jessica Juntunen, Rachel Juntunen, Briana Manquen, Jenna Manquen, Alex Manquen and Emma Juntunen

            Her step-grandchildren: Jason Matthews, Courtney Matthews, and Derek Matthews; 23 great-grandchildren

            Her special nieces Patty Jelley and Shannon Monro

            Her brother-in-law: Jerry (Karyn) Juntunen

            Her sisters-in-law: Carole (Russ) Luttinen and Sharon Juntunen

            Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins

     A funeral service for Judith will be held 1:00 pm Thursday, August 24, 2023, at Grace Lutheran Church of South Range with Rev. Bucky Beach to officiate.  Burial will be in the Liminga Cemetery.

     Friends may call on Thursday, August 24, 2023, from 11:00 am until time of services at Grace Lutheran Church of South Range.
