VFW Posts and American Legion Halls Joining the Copper Country Veterans Resource Fair

Local veterans groups play key roles in community throughout the Keweenaw Peninsula. Some often host charitable dinners, support local high school scholarships, and are well represented during parades throughout the summer. These groups also work on community projects, and spend time sharing stories at the VFW or American Legion halls. Building a tight knit community of veterans.

“Veterans are used to having a purpose, they join the military and they are given a mission, a purpose. A very important purpose, to defend our country, and way of life, and they are willing to give their lives to do that if they have too. So coming home and finding a purpose in the community is is a great thing. Building support systems speaks to positive mental health, I think it’s important for us to be a part of communities and it helps our mental health when we do that, and to have a purpose.” – Joseph Battisfore, Director, Houghton County Veterans Affairs Office

Next week VFW posts and American Legion halls will join veteran service organizations at the Copper Country Veterans Resource Fair to learn more about veteran benefits. VFW halls and American Legion posts in the community are full of dedicated service men and women who are always open to meeting other veterans. Consider meeting with a local hall while at the veteran resource fair to learn more about their involvement in the Copper Country.

The Copper Country Veterans Resource Fair is August 2nd from 1 to 5 pm at the Calumet Colosseum.
