Houghton’s planning commission will encourage the city council to go after a municipal buildings grant, focusing on improvements to Dee Stadium. City Manager Eric Waara plans to submit a grant application with the Michigan Labor and Economic Opportunity department for the Community Center Grant program.
Next month the planning commission will continue its discussions surrounding the city working on re-branding. A part of Houghton’s Redevelopment Ready Community plans with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation has the city working with a marking agency to developing an official unified brand for Houghton across the city’s departments, events, services, and infrastructure. Some of last night’s conversation discussed what chapter of the master plan branding will appropriately fit, or if the city’s brand should have it’s own section, as it will define the identity of Houghton.
