Faedo Lifts Tigers Past Padres – Monday Spots Wrap

MLB

Home runs from Spencer Torkelson and Andy Ibáñez, and a stellar return to the starting rotation by Alex Faedo lifted the Tigers to a 3-1 victory over the Padres yesterday. Called back from Toledo for the game, Faedo allowed just one hit over six innings, and earned the win. Beau Brieske gave up two hits and a run in the seventh, but Jason Foley and Alex Lange each turned in scoreless innings to finish the game.

The Tigers host the Giants this afternoon, in a make-up game from April 16th. Tarik Skubal will start for Detroit. Coverage will begin at 12:45 on 99.3 The Lift.

The Brewers fell to the Braves 4-2 yesterday. Julio Teheran turned in a good start, giving up a run over six innings, but Atlanta scored three in the eighth off Elvis Peguero to take control. Brice Turang homered for Milwaukee.

The Brewers entertain the Reds tonight. Colin Rae will start against Graham Ashcraft.

Fast Pitch Softball

Tonight is the final night of regular-season play for the Copper Country Fast Pitch Softball League…
• At the Bone Yard, Tervo Agency takes on Superior Service at 5:30, and REL faces Superior National Bank at 7:15.
• At the Chassell field, JB’s meets Gold Standard at 7:15.

The Fast Pitch League playoffs begin Wednesday, and conclude Saturday. We’ll broadcast the championship game Saturday afternoon on KBear 102.3.

Slow Pitch Softball

• At the Hancock Driving Park, Superior Lube plays Downtowner Two at 6:15, and McGann’s/Northern Auto meets Koppers at 7:30.

NFL

The Lions have placed wide receiver Marvin Jones on the non-football injury list. Jones is returning to Detroit this season. He suffered the undisclosed injury over the summer. He has been working out, and there’s hope he’ll still be ready for the start of the season.

• Hatfield also won the Expert Enduro, with Brodey Bevins of Houghton second. Leia Schneeberger of Madison had the fastest women’s time.
• Erik Pfeifer of Champlin, Minnesota, won the Sport Enduro, with Sam Apol of Hopkins, Michigan second. Anna Rose Nelson of Wausau was the fastest woman.
• Samuel Kilpela of Atlantic Mine took the Expert Cross Country title, with Mikael Kilpela from Marquette second.
