The Copper Country Intermediate School District elected officers to the school board at their meeting last night. Karen Johnson of Lake Linden was elected as President; Gale Eilola of Pelkie as Vice-President; Nels Christopherson of Houghton as Treasurer; and Adam Loukus of Calumet as Secretary. Also serving on the Board as Trustees are Dale Kero of Hancock, Tim Palosaari of Chassell and Lisa Tarvainen of Watton.
Meetings will be held every third Tuesday of the month at 5:30 pm at the CCISD Service Center.
Jennifer Beaudette, Camp Nesbit Director and Early Childhood Supervisor presented to the board at the meeting. Beaudette reported that the week-long camp has been successful in “enhancing relationships and opportunities for supportive independent experiences in the Ottawa National Forest”. The week-long camp is an outdoor educational experience offered for students with Mild to Moderate cognitive impairments within the Upper Peninsula. The CCISD houses the program and it is held in the third week of June each year.
The board adopted an anti-bullying policy, renewed the existing Great Start Readiness Program Contracts, Approved the Industrial Education Contract for L’Anse Area Schools, the Jutila Center Rental Contract, Health Careers contract for L’Anse Area Schools, and approved a new position of Resources Specialist (REMC1).
The board also approved the hire of Laurie Christianson as a Special Education Teacher Consultant, Jennifer Wall and Laurel Green as a Mental Health Provider Intern, Rebekah Schmidt as a Behavior Interventionist, Markus Smith as a Bus Driver/Custodian, Corey Soumis as a Career & Technical Education Director, and Bridget Firchau as a Mental Health Specialist after accepting her resignation as a Secretary/Conference Coordinator.
