Canal Run Ties Into Key Ingredients This Weekend

Canal Run is a popular local event, and now it’s tied with the bustle of Key Ingredients in Downtown Hancock. Key Ingredients offers a variety of vendors and foods from local businesses.

“Racers often look to ‘carb-load’ before a long endurance event, like the half marathon in the Canal Run. You know, those carbs are converted over to energy, and they help to fuel the racers as they’re running those long distances. So, it really does tie perfectly with [Key Ingredients], and it’s an opportunity as well to really see downtown Hancock. A lot of times when we’re driving through, or maybe [you’re] from out of the area, you don’t really get to see all the great things offered in downtown Hancock, and Key Ingredient’s will allow us to do that.” – Angela Luskin, Community Health Coordinator at UP Health System Portage.

For those not partaking in the long races such as the half-marathon, there are other races that are available. There is even an option for adaptive athletes.

“We have a lot of different events to choose from. The furthest distance is that half marathon, which does involve quite a bit of training beforehand. [There’s] the 10 mile walk and the 10 mile run, there’s also the 5 mile walk and the 5 mile run, and that 2 mile fun run/walk. I would probably suggest for those that have not been putting in long runs and a lot of training in, that 2 and 5 mile races might be more comfortable than just jumping into a 10 mile race or a half marathon without being properly prepared.” – Angela Luskin, Community Health Coordinator at UP Health System Portage.

You can sign up online until Thursday at midnight, and you can also sign up in person on Friday 3-8pm while you’re at Key Ingredients. Those who are already registered can pick up their race packets from the same booth on Quincy green.
