MLB
Matt Manning and two relievers combined to no-hit the Blue Jays Saturday, in a 2-0 Tigers victory. Manning walked three batters before being lifted in the seventh inning after his 91st pitch. Jason Foley and Alex Lange completed the first combined no-hitter in Detroit history. Both Tigers runs scored in the first inning, on an RBI double by Spencer Torkelson, and an RBI triple by Kerry Carpenter. Riley Green had two hits in his return from the injured list.
The Tigers welcome the Blue Jays again this afternoon. Tarik Skubal will start against Chris Bassitt. Coverage will begin at 1:15 on 99.3 The Lift.
Detroit brought pitcher Beau Brieske off the injured list yesterday, and sent starter Alex Faedo down to Toledo. Brieske missed nearly a year because of what turned out to be nerve issues causing pain in his throwing arm.
The Brewers couldn’t hold an early lead, and lost to the Reds 8-5 Saturday. Willy Adames hit two home runs. Starter Colin Rae left in the fifth inning, and was charged with five runs, but it was reliever Elvis Peguero who took the loss.
The Brewers host the Reds again this afternoon. Wade Miley will pitch for Milwaukee.
The All Star break begins tomorrow, with the fall classic scheduled to be played in Seattle Tuesday.
The MLB Draft begins tonight, with the first two rounds. Detroit has the third overall pick, along with picks 37 and 45. Milwaukee has the 18th, 33rd and 54th selections. The remaining 18 rounds of the draft will take place tomorrow and Tuesday.

The Copper Country Twilight Baseball League’s annual Leo Durocher Memorial Tournament heads into its final day today.

• Garnet Garage plays Houghton Building Supply in the first semifinal at 11:00.

On the first day of competition at Run the Keweenaw Saturday…
• Jonathan Kilpela won the 6k Mount Baldy Hill Climb. The former Jeffers High School and Michigan Tech standout finished 19 seconds ahead of Andy Liebner. Kirsten Monahan turned in the fastest women’s time, and finished fifth overall. Anabel Needham was second in the women’s division, and sixth overall. See full results here.
• Kilpela also turned in the fastest time in the 10k Challenge, 25 seconds ahead of Liebner. Needham claimed the women’s title, and finished seventh overall, 39 seconds better than Monahan. See full results here.

Roller Derby
Keweenaw Roller Derby will hold a new skater session today. Men and women are welcome, and no skating experience is necessary. Learn to skate, learn the rules of derby, and learn how to referee or volunteer. No registration is necessary. Today’s session will begin at 1:00 at the Colosseum. Similar sessions are scheduled each Sunday through August 20th.
