Who Will Be The 75th Strawberry Queen?

The annual Strawberry Festival in Chassell is now in it’s 75th year. Besides the delicious foods and the anticipated Strawberry parade, there will be the crowning of the 2023 Strawberry Queen. Last year, Micaela Geborkoff was crowned.

There are 10 candidates this year.

  • Kierah Hietala is a recent graduate of Chassell Township School, and hopes to eventually become a traveling nurse.
  • Robin Kiesel will be a senior at Houghton High School. She plans to go to nursing school to become a nurse practitioner in pediatric care.
  • Kaci Dewar is a recent graduate of Houghton High School, and eventually hopes to become an elementary school teacher.
  • Giselle Wiitanen will graduate Mount Pleasant High School next year, and was named All Academic for the Saginaw Valley League for both basketball and volleyball.
  • Romy Kus is a 2023 graduate of Marquette Senior High School plans to major in pre-med and hopes to work in anesthesiology.
  • Ingrid Seagren will be a sophomore at Michigan Tech where she is majoring in human biology and working towards minors in pre-health and German.
  • Grace Gardner will be traveling to South Korea as part of the 4-H States’ Outbound Program. She plans to receive an associate degree in general education.
  • Katie Sarau will graduate from Houghton high school in 2025, and is interested in becoming a traveling nurse.
  • Stella Wickstrom is a 2023 graduate of Houghton High School, and will be competing on the Women’s Rowing Team at the University of Michigan while studying Kinesiology.
  • Saige Hietala is a 2023 graduate of Chassell Township School She took a Nurses Aide Class at Canal View Nursing Home and loves to visit the residents.
