Obituary: Dale Plante

Dale Plante was born in Laurium, MI on July 27, 1943. A son of Emil Plante Jr. and Mildred (Laurie) Plante. He died from complications of a stroke he suffered in Feb. 2023 in Sun City, AZ.

Dale graduated from Calumet High School, class of 1961.

Inspired by his aunt, Barbara Laurie, RN, Dale attended Alexian Bros. Hospital School of Nursing in Chicago, IL, and became a registered nurse in 1965.  While in Chicago, he met his future wife, Carol Hoffman, another nursing student.  They were married on June 25,1966. Also, in 1966 Dale was drafted into the Navy during the Vietnam Conflict. He served at Great Lakes Naval Hosp. during the war and was honorably discharged in 1968.

Dale then worked as personnel director at St. Joseph’s hospital in Hancock before returning to a school of Anesthesia in La Crosse, WI. He graduated in 1973 as a certified registered nurse anesthetist (CRNA) and returned to the Copper Country to work until his retirement in 1998.

Dale was preceded in death by his parents Emil and Mildred (Laurie) Plante, his maternal grandparents Charles and Emma (Langen) Laurie, his paternal grandparents Emil and Blanche (O’Neil) Plante, his uncle Donald (Eleanore) and Cousin Jerry Laurie, best friends Roger (Joyce) Kinonen, and Bill (Ichiko) Mabee.

 He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Carol, son Christopher (Lori) of Green Bay, WI, son Craig of Calumet, daughter Brenna (Dean) Zavadsky of Shakopee, MN, and Brandon of Marshall, MI.  His aunts Barbara Laurie of Laurium, Eleanore (Donald) Laurie of Lake Linden.  Cousins Don (Lynn) and Terry (Lori) Laurie, and Doug and David Martin of OH.  His grandchildren, who were the joy of his life, Alexii Plante, of MI, Thomas Plante of Salem, OR, Samantha Plante of Hancock, Keira Kyle and Ian Zavadsky of MN, and Emily and Jacob Plante of Battle Creek, MI.

A graveside service will be at the Lake View Cemetery on Thurs. July 27, 2023 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Bryan Lundquist to officiate.
