In Copper Country Twilight League baseball last evening…
• Garnet Garage got past Northern Driveline 7-5.
NBA
To the surprise of absolutely no one, the Spurs made 7’5″ French standout Victor Wembanyama the top pick in the NBA draft last evening. The Hornets used the number two pick on Alabama small forward Brandon Miller, and the Trail Blazers grabbed G League point guard Scoot Henderson with pick number three.
With the fifth selection, the Pistons added shooting guard Ausar Thompson, who played in the Overtime Elite development program. Ausar’s twin brother, Amen, was taken a pick earlier by the Rockets.
Detroit then traded up to get Houston shooting guard Marcus Sasser with the 25th pick. In exchange, the Pistons sent their 31st pick this year, and two future second-round selections, to the Celtics.
Thompson is known for his inside play, and Sasser for his three-point acumen. Both are considered excellent defensive players, a priority need for Detroit.
