Patricia Kay (Niemi) Karvonen, age 80 of Arnheim, MI passed away on June 14, 2023 at Baraga County Memorial Hospital.
She was born on November 16, 1942 in Hancock, MI. She grew up in Askel, MI and graduated from the Doelle School in Tapiola. “Patsy” married Wayne Karvonen, Sr., son of Edwin and Martha (Partanen) Karvonen April 14, 1962. They were happily married for 54 years, until Wayne’s death in 2016.
Patsy worked as a waitress at the Chippewa Restaurant in Chassell, then as a housekeeper and later as Housekeeping Manager at the Franklin Square Inn/Magnuson Inn in Houghton, and as a waitress at the Tapiola Diner. She enjoyed her beautiful flower gardens, houseplants, canning, weekly sauna, and her children and grandchildren.
Patsy was preceded in death by her parents, John and Edna (Saari) Niemi of Askel, sister Shirley (Reuben) Huhta of Chassell, and her husband Wayne Karvonen, Sr. of Arnheim.
Patsy is survived by her sons Wayne (Lori) Karvonen, Jr. of Arnheim, Greg Karvonen of Arnheim, and Jeff (Deanna) Karvonen of Askel; her grandchildren Ashley Karvonen of Niagara WI, Caylin Karvonen of Chicago, IL, and Erik Karvonen of Marine Corps Camp Pendleton California; her siblings Michael (Shirley) Niemi of Canton, MI., and Beverly (John) Tapani of Klingville; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Patsy’s wishes were to be cremated with no formal funeral services. An informal celebration of life memorial will be held for both Patricia and Wayne at a later date, to be announced.
The family would like to thank Dr. Craig Vickstrom, the Nurses, and ALL staff at BCMH for their professional, kind, and compassionate care.
