The Village of L’Anse has a new budget.
At last night’s council meeting, Village Manager Bob LaFave reported that the current fiscal year is closing out with the books balanced.
Next year’s general fund budget comes in at just under $1.6 million. The various street maintenance budgets total slightly more than an additional $500,000. Budgets for the village’s electric, sewer and water utilities are also figured separately.
The base property tax rate for the village is around 10 mills, with an additional four mills approved by voters to support street repairs, the cemetery, and pay off the bonds that built the fire hall expansion.
LaFave told council members that surveying work has begun on the new farm market site at Meadowbrook Field. Construction should begin later this summer.
Council members expressed appreciation to the organizers of Saturday’s Lake Trout Festival. The Keweenaw Bay Classic Fishing tournament drew 141 boats. Poor weather hindered the Waterfront Park activities. Council member LeAnn Davis announced that this year’s Baraga County Convention and Visitors Bureau Citizen of the Year Award was presented to Todd VanDyke.
