New Home Coming for L’Anse Farmer’s Market

The L’Anse Farmers Market will be getting a new home.

At last night’s council meeting, Village Manager Bob LaFave announced that the Portage Health Foundation has approved a grant request to build a permanent home for the market at Meadowbrook Field.

The market has operated for many years at the L’Anse Waterfront Park pavilion, and will continue to do so while the new facility is being built.

LaFave said the new plan will facilitate 18 vendors, with room for potential expansion…

It’s really positive for our community, and great news for those involved in farmer’s markets and local food producers in our area.

The design will enable vendors to back their vehicles up to their spaces, for efficient loading and unloading of merchandise.

He anticipates construction can begin this summer, with the new facility ready for use next year.

The new market project is a joint venture between the village and L’Anse Township. The village owns Meadowbrook Arena, while the township owns most of Meadowbrook Field.

LaFave also reminded residents that this year’s spring clean-up is underway.

Residents may bring many types of trash to the dumpsters at the village garage on Poplar Street each day through Thursday between 9:00 am and 8:00 pm, and Friday between 9:00 am and noon. If dumpsters become filled, collection will be closed for that day.

The $20 charge per pickup or trailer load must be paid at the village office in advance. A ticket will be provided that must be turned in before trash can be unloaded.
