In high school baseball yesterday…
• Houghton defeated Calumet 14-3. Cam Cischke drove in six runs for the Gremlins with a pair of bases-loaded doubles. Hudson Markham had two hits and three RBI. Gab Carlson got the win on the mound.
• Jeffers swept Hancock 15-1 and 9-5.
• Ewen-Trout Creek and Ontonagon split their doubleheader, with the Panthers taking the opener 14-10, and the Gladiators claiming the nightcap 21-6.

MLB
The Tigers rapped out nine hits, but lost 2-0 to the Guardians last night. Michael Lorenzen took the tough loss, giving up a run on five hits over seven innings. Spencer Torkelson and Akil Baddoo each had three hits for Detroit.
The Tigers wrap up that series at Cleveland this afternoon. Eduardo Rodriguez will start against Peyton Battenfield. Coverage will begin at 12:45 on 99.3 The Lift.
The Brewers fell to the Dodgers 6-2 last evening. Eric Lauer struggled, allowing four runs before leaving in the fourth inning. Rowdy Tellez and Victor Caratini homered.
The Brewers host the Dodgers again this afternoon. Wade Miley will start against Clayton Kershaw.
NFL
The Lions have released a third player who was recently written up for violating the NFL’s gambling policy. Wide receiver Stanley Berryhill was placed on waivers yesterday. He has been suspended for the first six games of the season for placing bets through an online site from a Lions’ team facility.
Detroit also waived cornerback Mac McCain and defensive lineman Demetrius Taylor yesterday.
