Houghton To Fund Mural Artist For a Local Piece

The City of Houghton recently received a grant from Visit Keweenaw with contribution from The Vault Hotel for $6000 to fund a mural artist. The mural will be on the parking area just across the street from The Vault Hotel, on the corner of Shelden Ave. and Isle Royal St.

“The goal [is] to bring some color and vibrancy to an area of the main street that right now [is] kind of dark and bare, and we’re really hoping we can find an artist that can give us a unique piece that reflects our community. I know in the call for submissions we had just broadly stated that we would be open to something that represents our community, culture, history, elements of [Houghton, and] the local natural beauty. The sky is the limit for artist submissions.” – Community and Business Development Director, Amy Zawada

You can find the application on the City of Houghton Facebook page, or email the city to request the google forms link.
