UPDATE: A celebration of life for Philip Maatta will be held from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm on July 8th, 2023, at the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home. Burial will take place following the celebration of life at Lake View Cemetery in Calumet, Michigan.
Philip Joseph Maatta, age 39, a resident of Spartanburg, South Carolina passed away on February 6, 2023 at his home in Spartanburg.
Philip was born on September 11, 1983, in Laurium, Michigan, to parents Frederick and Patricia (Monette) Maatta. He attended CLK Schools.
Philip was an exceptional hockey and baseball player. He also loved picking rocks and finding agates; he loved nature. Philip also loved to cook – he worked in several local restaurants and soon became a sous chef. He was happily employed at the Wofford College in South Carolina. The greatest joy of Philip’s life were his children.
Philip is preceded in death by his parents Fred and Patty Maatta and his brother Sammy Maatta.
Philip is survived by his five children Maisy, Julia, Payton, Isabella, and Aiden. His sisters Corinnea (Bob), Chrissie (Kevin), and brother Fred. Also he is survived by nieces and nephews Amber, Jacob, Shawna, Christopher, Sam, and Mara.
